Garcin Jules Auguste, or rather J.A. Salomon, *11 July 1830 Bourges, †10 October 1896 Paris, French violinist, conductor and composer. He completed his musical studies at the Paris Conservatoire under D. Alard (violin), F. Bazin (harmony), L. Adam and A. Thomas (composition) in 1853, took the premier prix for violin. In 1856, he joined the orchestra of the Paris Opera, where he became first violinist; in 1871, third conductor; and in 1885, principal conductor. As conductor of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire from 1885 to 1892, he became renowned for his performances of works by Brahms and Wagner. From 1875, he also taught violin at the Paris Conservatoire.
