Biography

Frid Géza, *25 January 1904 Máramaros-Sziget, †13 September 1989 Beverwijk, Dutch composer and pianist of Hungarian origin. From 1912 to 1924, he studied at the Budapest Academy of Music under Z. Kodály (composition) and Bartók (piano). After completing his studies, he toured Europe and the Far East as a performer. In 1929, he settled in Amsterdam. From 1946, he taught at the conservatory in Rotterdam, and in 1948 he became a Dutch citizen. He traveled extensively as a concert pianist and accompanist (Africa, North and South America, Europe, and Asia). From 1964, he served as professor of ensemble playing at the conservatory in Utrecht. He composed works for string and symphony orchestras, wind orchestra, chamber music, choral works, songs, and ballets.
