Biography

Frezzolini Erminia, *27 March 1818 Orvieto, †5 November 1884 Paris, Italian soprano. She was the daughter of the singer Giuseppe Frezzolini (1789–1861) and a student of, among others, D. Ronconi and M. Garcia. She made her debut in 1838 in Florence in Beatrice di Tenda by V. Bellini. In 1840, she sang at La Scala, performing in operas by G. Donizetti, including Lucrezia Borgia and Belisario. She achieved success on many Italian stages, as well as in Vienna, London, St. Petersburg, and Madrid. She was the first performer of the leading roles in I Lombardi (1843) and Joan of Arc (1845) by G. Verdi. From 1853 to 1857, she was a member of the Théâtre Italien company in Paris. In 1857, she traveled to New York and toured the United States. In 1860, she returned to Italy and later settled permanently in Paris, where she ran a singing school. She officially retired from the stage in 1863, though she continued to appear occasionally until 1871.
