Biography

Fleury Louis-François, *24 May 1878 Lyon, †12 June 1926 Paris, French flutist. He studied under Taffanel at the Paris Conservatoire, where he won first prize in 1900. In 1902 he became a member, and in 1905 director, of the Société moderne d’instruments à vent, and from 1906 also of the Société des concerts d’autrefois, with which he frequently toured various European countries, promoting both English and French early and contemporary music. Debussy composed Syrinx for solo flute for him. Fleury was also an editor of works by M. Blavet, J. Ch. Naudot, H. Purcell, J. Stanley, and L. Vinci, and collaborated with French and English music journals.
