Biography

Fischer Carl, *7 December 1849 Buttstädt (Thuringia), †14 February 1923 New York, American music publisher. In 1872, he founded a musical instruments warehouse called C. Fischer Inc. in New York. Soon, they started publishing activities by releasing, among others, classical orchestral music, pedagogical piano literature (series “Master of Our Day”), works by contemporary composers (A. Bax, E. Bloch, L. Godowsky, A. Webern) and American artists of the younger generation. From 1907, Fisher started publishing the monthly magazine “The Musical Observer.” In 1923, the company’s management was taken over by the founder’s son, Walter S. (*18 April 1882, †26 April 1946), and after his death, by F. H. Connor. The publishing house is one of the largest editorial companies in the USA, also representing numerous English publishing companies on the American market.
