Feil Arnold, *2 October 1925 Mannheim, †30 March 2019 Tübingen, German musicologist. From 1946 to 1954 he studied music history at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Mannheim and at the University of Heidelberg under Th. Georgiades; he also studied Medieval Latin with W. Bulst and art history with F. Ernst. He received his doctorate in 1954. From 1958 to 1965 he lectured at the universities of Heidelberg, Hanover, and later Tübingen. Between 1959 and 1967 he directed the Collegium Musicum at the University of Tübingen, where he completed his habilitation in 1965; he was appointed associate professor there in 1971 and full professor in 1979. At the same time, he also lectured at the Fachhochschule für Bibliothekswesen in Stuttgart. In his scholarly work, he focused primarily on the music of F. Schubert. He was a co-founder of the Internationale Schubert Gesellschaft and served as its chairman from 1978 to 1990. He was also one of the editors and publishers of the Neue Schubert Ausgabe.
