Dahlig Ewa, *21 July 1958 Warsaw, Polish ethnomusicologist. Between 1977 and 1982, she studied at the Institute of Musicology at the University of Warsaw. Since 1982 she has worked at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where in 1990 she was awarded a PhD for her thesis Instrumenty skrzypcowe na ziemiach polskich and took up the post of assistant professor; since 1997 she has been chair of the Polish National Committee of the ICTM and is a member of the editorial board of the quarterly “Muzyka”. In 1992–93, at the University of Essen, she worked with H. Schaffrath on the use of computers for the archiving and analysis of melodies. In 1994, she became chair of the Study Group on Computer-Aided Research at the ICTM and has been developing an international computerised database of folk melodies. She utilised this experience whilst collaborating on the preparation of the source edition of the volume Kaszuby (eds. L. Bielawski and A. Mioduchowska, Warsaw 1997–98) and in studies on the rhythm of Polish dances in folk and professional music. She conducted field research on instrumental music in the Kielce region, documented folk instruments in Polish museum collections, and explored the role of folklore in contemporary culture.
