She studied piano at the Instrumental Faculty from 1957 to 1959, and music theory at the PWSM (State Higher School of Music, now the Academy of Music) in Kraków from 1959 to 1965. In 1998, she obtained her first-level teaching qualification with her thesis Twórczość Krzysztofa Pendereckiego. Między sacrum a profanum. From 1999 to 2004, she served as Dean of the Faculty of Composition, Conducting, and Music Theory, and, as an associate professor at the Academy of Music in Kraków, she lectured on the history of early music. In addition, she was a guest lecturer at Polish and foreign universities, including the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris in 1998, the F. Rabelais University in Tours in 1996 and 1998, and the International Bach Academy in Eugene (Oregon). She was also a member of the team carrying out the international research program Musical Life in Europe 1600–1900, organized under the auspices of the European Science Foundation in Strasbourg. In her research, Chłopicka focused on Polish contemporary music, particularly the works of K. Penderecki and W. Lutosławski. She also explored the theme of death in music (including passions and requiems) and the issues of 20th-century musical theatre in the broader context of theatre history and theory. Among her honours are the Minister of Culture and Art Award, 2nd Class (1978), the Gold Cross of Merit (1984), and the Silver Medal “Gloria Artis” for Merits to Culture (2014).
