Cesarius, Franciszek (EN)

Biography and literature

Cesarius, Caesarius, Franciszek, 17th century, composer, probably a Franciscan monk from Kraków. His connection with the well-known family of Kraków printers of the same name is unclear. Manuscript 5272 BJ contains an 8-part vocal-instrumental work Gaudeamus omnes in Domino, and 17th-century inventories of monastic musical materials list his other compositions: the inventory of the Krakow Carmelites from 1665–1684 records Missae duae super Stella CaeliMissa a 6 and Litania a 4; the inventory of the Franciscans of Lviv from the 1670s lists a mass for ten voices, while the inventory of the Franciscans of Drohiczyn from 1681 lists Litania Nomine Jesu for three voices and instruments.
