Burmester Willy Carl Adolph Wilhelm, *16 March 1869 Hamburg, †16 January 1933 Hamburg, German violinist. He studied with his father and later (1882–85) with J. Joachim in Berlin. He performed as a soloist from an early age, began concert tours in 1886, and took up the position of concertmaster in Sondershausen in 1890. He lived successively in Weimar, Helsinki, Darmstadt and Berlin. He was famous for his performances of Paganini’s works. He composed a Serenade in D major for string quartet and double bass, published Stücke alter Meister for violin and piano (Berlin, no date), Alte Weisen (Mainz, 1909–11) and others. He is the author of the autobiography Fünfzig Jahre Künstlerleben (Berlin, 1926).
