Biography

Buchbinder Rudolf, *11 February 1946 Litoměřice (Czech Republic), Austrian pianist. He studied at the Wiener Musikakademie under B. Seidlhofer, then with A. Brendel and F. Gulda. He made his debut in Vienna at the age of 11. In 1961, as a member of the Junges Wiener Trio, he won first prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich. In 1966, he won fifth prize at the Van Cliburn Piano Competition in the United States. He performs as a soloist and chamber musician, including with J. Suk (junior) and J. Starker, with whom he recorded Brahms’ cello sonatas for RCA. In addition to classical works recorded on CD (including all of Haydn’s sonatas), Buchbinder’s repertoire also includes contemporary music; he was the first to perform the piano concertos by G. Wimberger (1984) and M.Ch. Redel (1991) as well as Vermutungen über Lotti G. v. Einem (1984). He has performed many times in Poland.
