Biography

Brégy Wiktor, *3 September 1903 Kyiv, †20 May 1976 Warsaw, Polish singer (tenor). He studied vocal music under A. Comte-Wilgocka and M. Łubkowska. In 1927, he was hired by the Warsaw Opera, quickly gaining a prominent position in the ensemble. In 1931–33, he was a soloist at the Opéra Comique in Paris, and then (until 1939) sang in Berlin, Vienna, Prague, Stockholm, and on Swiss stages. Among other things, he initiated the staging of Halka in Bern. After World War II, he focused mainly on teaching (from 1958 at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw) and directing. He was one of the founders of the Opera Studio in Gdańsk, which later became the Baltic State Opera. He wrote a textbook entitled Elementy techniki wokalnej (Krakow 1974) and many articles on vocal music.
