Biography and Literature

Brain Dennis, *17 May 1921 London, †1 September 1957 Hatfield, son of Aubrey Harold, English horn player. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London in his father’s class, with whom he made his stage debut in 1938. He was later the first French horn player of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist at numerous music festivals, gaining an international fame. A number of works were written especially for him, including B. Britten’s Serenade for tenor, horn and symphony orchestra (1943).
