Bonci Alessandro, *10 February 1870 Cesena (near Rimini), †9 August 1940 Viserba (near Rimini), Italian singer (lyric tenor). He made his debut in 1896 in Parma as Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff, in 1897 he sang the role of Arthur in Bellini’s I Puritani at La Scala in Milan, he also performed in other Italian theatres, and later on stages in many European capitals (in 1897 in Warsaw). In 1906, he was engaged by the Manhattan Opera House in New York, and in 1907–10 he was a soloist at the Metropolitan Opera House. In 1913–14, he performed in Madrid and Barcelona, and in 1919–21 he sang with the Chicago Opera Company. He also enjoyed success in South America. From 1923, he worked as a teacher in New York, and from 1925 in Milan. He became famous as a master of bel canto, an outstanding interpreter of roles in operas by Bellini and Donizetti.
