Boczkowski, Kazimierz (EN)

Biography

Boczkowski Kazimierz, active in the 17th and 18th century, Polish composer and organist. He was probably educated at the Jesuit boarding school attached to the college in Bydgoszcz, and between 1671 and 1675 he played in the Jesuit ensemble in Bydgoszcz. In 1692–93 and 1696, and then again in 1713–14, he belonged to the Jesuit ensemble in Krakow. He probably stayed in Sandomierz until 1700, and in 1700–09 he was an organist at the Benedictine convent in Staniątki. He was also a copyist of hymnals compiled between 1700 and 1709. They mainly contain songs for two voices with basso continuo. Boczkowski is also the author of at least several compositions included in the hymnals, mostly polyphonic with organ (basso continuo). Only two concertos from his oeuvre are currently known.
