Beck Johann Heinrich, *12 September 1856 Cleveland, †26 May 1924 Cleveland, American conductor and composer. In 1879–82, he studied at the Leipzig Conservatory under C. Reinecke and S. Jadassohn. After returning to Cleveland, he founded a string quartet. From 1889, he was the conductor of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for several years, and from 1901 to 1912, he conducted the Cleveland Pops Orchestra. He composed concert overtures, Moorish Serenade for orchestra, Symphonic Scherzo, the symphonic poem Aus meinem Leben, the cantata Deukalion, and numerous chamber works.
