Biography and literature

Arnold Ludwik, *ca. 1863 Warszówka near Kalisz, †21 December 1938 Kalisz, Polish luthier. A student of the Schuster brothers in Markneukirchen, Germany. From 1883, he ran a workshop in Kalisz. He was a member of the Kalisz Music Society. His instruments were presented at exhibitions in Częstochowa (1909, gold medal), Kalisz (1910, 1912) and and Kraków (1936) and received very high ratings; they also received favourable reviews from S. Barcewicz, P. Kochański, J. Kubelik, and others. Arnold also built instruments with unusual contours. He had two sons who were also luthiers, Ludwik (1900–72) and Eugeniusz (1912–72).
