What does PBM consist of? – A Guide to the Polish Music Library
SHEET MUSIC
An important part of the collections made available in the Polish Music Library is sheet music – digital copies of scores of solo, chamber and orchestral works by Polish and foreign composers. Here, you will find compositions representing various eras and genres. There are really a lot of them, so it is worth knowing how to make their search easier.
Filtering search results
To find the materials you are interested in, you can use the main search engine (by entering the composer’s name, title or phrase, as we suggested in the previous entry). Sometimes, however, we expect more precise results – in such a case, the filters in the Scores section will come in handy, thanks to which we can search the resources using various criteria (casting, themes, genre).
Here are some examples of the sheet music found in PBM and how to find it:
- EDUCATIONAL PIECES – intended for both the youngest (e.g. unforgettable collections of Garścia as well as proposals by contemporary performers and teachers and even the latest music, among others, by G. Bacewicz) and more advanced students (e.g. compositions by P. Tchaikovsky and W. Lutosławski).
∗ Tip: to find the materials mentioned above, search the “Choose topic” field for the phrase “Music for children.”
- ORCHESTRA PIECES – here, you can find scores, orchestral parts and piano reductions of well-known and popular compositions by K. Szymanowski or W. Lutosławski, as well as pieces of contemporary composers, including R. Twardowski, J. Krenz, G. Bacewicz and B. Matuszczak. In this section, there are also interesting examples of film music.
∗ Tip: to find the materials mentioned above, search the “Author” field for the composer’s surname and the “Choose topic” field for the phrase “symphonic orchestra.”
- CHAMBER AND SOLO PIECES – pieces for smaller ensembles by the most famous composers: early (e.g. Vivaldi and G.F. Händel), newer (e.g. F. Chopin and H. Wieniawski) and contemporary (e.g. E. Sikora and H. Kulenty). In this extensive category, you can also find arrangements of well-known pieces by J.S. Bach, F. Chopin or W.A. Mozart, among others.
∗ Tip: to find the materials mentioned above, search the “Author” field for the composer’s surname and the “Choose topic” field for the phrase for “chamber music,” “solo music” or “music for…” […piano/flute/violin/etc.]
© Note: the materials described above are intended for use within the framework of public fair use or private fair use. Read more about fair use.
