Biography

Adamowski Tymoteusz, *24 March 1858 Warsaw, †18 April 1943 Boston, Polish violinist. He studied with A. Kątski at the Music Institute in Warsaw, and with J.L. Massart at the Paris Conservatory (1876–79). From 1879, he lived in the USA; in 1885, he taught violin at the Boston Conservatory; in 1884–1908, he was a concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and in 1890–94, he conducted the orchestra during popular summer concerts. In 1888 he founded a string quartet, reorganised in 1890, the so-called “Adamowski Quartet” (T. Adamowski – 1st violin, A. Moldauer – 2nd violin, M. Zach – alto, J. Adamowski – cello); next, in 1896, he founded a piano trio together with his brother Józef and his wife A. Szumowska. Both bands were popular in the USA, they performed, among others, at concerts with I.J. Paderewski in New York (1893, 1908). Tymoteusz Adamowski performed as a soloist in Poland, Paris and London. He composed violin miniatures and songs.
