Biography and literature

Schetky J. George, born John George Schetky, Shetky, *1 June 1776 Edinburgh, †11 December 1831 Philadelphia, American cellist, teacher, composer, music publisher of German origin, son of Johann Georg Christoph. In 1787 he left for the United States and pursued a career as a concert performer and teacher in Philadelphia; there, between 1802 and 1811, he published The Musical Journal for the Piano Forte (vols. III–V) with J.C. Taws and B. Carr, and in 1820 he was one of the co-founders of the Musical Fund Society. Schetky composed mainly works for voice and piano (published in The Musical Journal for the Piano Forte) and piano pieces. In 1812 he travelled to Great Britain to publish his father’s piano works in London and Edinburgh between 1812 and 1818.
