Biography

Levasseur Rosalie, actually Marie-Rose-CIaude Josèphe Levasseur, *8 October 1749 Valenciennes, †6 May 1826 Neuwied, French singer (soprano). She made her debut in 1766 at the Opera in Paris with a role in L’Europe galante by A. Campra. She was associated with this stage until 1788. She was friends with Ch.W. Gluck, she was the first interpreter of the title roles in his operas – Alceste (1776), Armida (1777), Iphigénie en Tauride (1779). She also sang the main parts in the operas of F.-A. Philidor (Ernelinda), N. Piccinni and A. Sacchini, and took part in the premiere performances of operas by, among others, A. Grétry, N. Piccinni (Roland, 1778) and J. Ch. Bach.
