The stronger and stronger rays of the sun paint the first freckles on the faces of walkers. We are preparing to paint Easter eggs! Preferably in pastel PBM colors =)
Do you know that…
…the custom of spring egg decoration appeared in Poland as early as the 10th century, and the oldest painted eggs in the world come from antiquity?
Technique
Depending on the method of decoration, Easter eggs are divided into kraszanki [painted or coloured], drapanki [with scratched patterns], ażurki [lace-like], and even nalepianki [objects glued to the surface of an egg].
A popular technique, first in the Lublin region, then also throughout eastern and central Poland, was batik – decoration using wax and dyes. First, patterns are drawn with wax on the surface of the egg, then the prepared Easter egg is coloured, and finally the wax is removed from it by heating it. Did you know that this method of making spring decorations is called like this? We didn’t, but we used it! =) And we recommend this activity for April afternoons.
That’s not all! Today we can show you what Easter eggs made using the batik technique at the beginning of the 20th century look like, decorated with folk motifs and the Kurpie pattern. Are you curious?
